Strictly Whitetails

Biography

Growing up, Miller picked up bowhunting at young age and quickly became addicted. He learned quickly that harvesting any whitetail with a bow makes it a trophy. For many years, he has pushed the boundaries of bowhunting and learned many hard lessons. Within the past 10 years, he has fine tuned his approach and become an accomplished hunter.

Miller’s experiences are drawn from hunting farmlands and public property. More recently he has begun traveling across the Midwest, challenging the big woods and foot hills across whitetail country. The properties and terrain type that he hunts are all areas the average hunter has access to hunt. Since his experiences are drawn from hunting the same land you hunt he has practical, down to earth advice. He does not rely on any shortcuts but believes hard work, knowledge of whitetail habits and terrain are the real keys.

So many hunters are looking for the shortcuts. Miller believes there are no shortcuts. Extensive scouting to the point your boots are worn thin, hunting hard, and using common sense techniques are the most important aspects of successful whitetail hunters.

Today he strives to take older class bucks from areas that hold relatively few mature bucks. Michigan has 350,000 bowhunters participating each year which means relatively few bucks reach 2.5 years old. Any buck that is older has learned to survive through several gun seasons making him nearly impossible to kill. This type of challenge is what drives Miller to target the type of animal that most don’t even see in the woods.

If that wasn't enough Miller also has 25 years of river walleye fishing experience. There were years he spent hundreds of hours wading in the murkey rivers. Adapting to the changing weather and water conditions has helped him consistently become successful. Today he continues to split his time chasing whitetails and walleyes.

In 2006, he began publishing common sense hunting advice and outdoor stories through his newsletter “Field Notes.” What started out as a few friends sharing stories has grown into something much bigger. Since then he has published many articles in local and national magazines.

Today he is an accomplished outdoor writer and speaker. He is known for giving straight forward advice, sharing his experiences and breaking down his hunting and fishing knowledge; like a close friend would offer.
